Monitoring of river health using aquatic insects: A study on Jatinga River, North East India

چکیده
A biomonitoring study of River Jatinga located in south Assam, north east In-dia was conducted for the first time. The aimed to evaluate water quality river different stretches using aquatic in-sect as bioindicators. Insect samples were collected from selected sites mid-stream and downstream during monsoon- post monsoon, 2018 winter- pre 2019. total 25 families insects recorded 8 orders; Gerridae eudominant midstream across all seasons with highest percentage win-ter. Hemiptera, most di-verse group represented by six relative abundance. found that although both repre-sented same functional feeding groups, there seasonal spatial varia-tions in-sects their occurrences. All biotic indices, BMWPTHAI, SIG-NAL2 scores, EPT % HFBI have shown relatively better than mon-soon monsoon sea-sons. Presence/absence abundance certain insect groups can provide infor-mation about health river.

15 صفحه اولSpatial and temporal organization of aquatic insects assemblages in the longitudinal gradient of a tropical river.
The distribution and abundance of aquatic insects were studied in the longitudinal gradient of the watershed of Macaé River, a coastal Atlantic Forest river in South-eastern Brazil. Sampling stations were selected in the first, second, fourth, fifth, and sixth orders and sampled in April, July, and October 1995. This represented the end of the rainy season, the dry season, and the beginning of ...
متن کاملLinking metal bioaccumulation of aquatic insects to their distribution patterns in a mining-impacted river.
Although the differential responses of stream taxa to metal exposure have been exploited for bioassessment and monitoring, the mechanisms affecting these responses are not well understood. In this study, the subcellular partitioning of metals in operationally defined metal-sensitive and detoxified fractions were analyzed in five insect taxa. Samples were collected in two separate years along an...

متن کاملEvaluation of Groundwater Chemistry of a Central Kerala River Basin, India using Multivariate Analysis
Statistical processing of data was necessary to arrive at a reasonable conclusion regarding the chemical behavior of groundwater in a river basin. Multivariate analysis was done to elucidate the groundwater chemistry of a Central Kerala River basin. Hydrochemical parameters like EC, pH, TDS, TH, Ca, Mg, Na, K, Cl, F, HCO 3 +CO 3 , SO 4 , total Fe were estimated in the pre- monsoon and post-mons...
